The Official State Gazette today publishes the agreement of the General Council of the Judiciary on the adaptation of the regulation of the reduction of working hours established in the Basic Statute of Public Employees after the reform introduced by Royal Decree Law 2/2023 . The reduction in working hours for caring for dependent children affected by cancer or another serious illness may be granted until the child turns 23 or until 26 if they also suffer from a serious disability.
This reduction for the care of children, people who have been permanently fostered or who are being cared for for adoption purposes will be granted, at most, until the person being cared for turns 23 years old . Although the general age limit will be the age of majority, “the mere achievement of 18 years of age will not cause the termination of the reduction in working hours, if the need for direct, continuous and permanent care is maintained.”
